Mission:

Founded in 2005, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCAA) is a nonprofit organization singularly focused on sudden cardiac arrest. SCAA identifies and united survivors, medical professionals and emergency technicians, who are joining together to increase public awareness of SCA.

Website highlight: Ask the Experts

The SCAA website has introduced a new “Ask the Expert” feature that hosts periodic live online discussions with experts on SCAA issues. The first discussion was held on May 4, 2008, with Dr. Howard S. Farkas. The topic was “Adjusting to Your ICD.”

Dr. Farkas is a consultant with the Electrophysiology Section of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Division of Cardiology in Chicago. He recently completed research on how patients adjust to having an implantable cardioverter device (ICD).

To read the questions submitted by patients and Dr. Farkas' answers, visit www.suddencardiacarrest.org and click the red “Ask the Experts” box on the upper right-hand side.
